UAE workers save 3.6 hours with AI, lose 3.4 fixing mistakes

AI productivity UAE workers time savings mistakes

If you have ever spent your lunch break untangling a chatbot’s confident nonsense, you are not alone. New research shows UAE employees are saving 3.6 hours a week thanks to artificial intelligence, but then losing nearly all of that time, 3.4 hours, fixing what the AI got wrong.

The numbers come from Workday’s report “Beyond Productivity: Measuring the Real Value of AI in the UAE.” The study found that 90 per cent of employees surveyed now use AI at least once a week at work. That is a huge adoption rate, and it tells you AI has stopped being a novelty in UAE offices. It is now part of the daily routine, whether you work in finance, retail, government or tech.

Why the time savings are not what they seem

On paper, 3.6 hours saved per week sounds like a solid win. That is almost half a working day given back to employees, time that could go toward bigger tasks, client calls or simply leaving the office on time.

But the report found a catch. Workers are spending nearly as much time, 3.4 hours a week, correcting, clarifying or rewriting AI output that was not good enough to use as is. In practical terms, the net gain shrinks to barely a few minutes a day once you account for the clean-up work. That is an important reality check for any company that assumed AI tools would instantly cut workloads.

This matters for UAE businesses because many are investing heavily in AI tools, training and strategy. If the actual productivity boost is smaller than expected, firms need to rethink how they roll out these tools. It is not enough to hand staff a chatbot and expect instant results. Oversight, training and quality checks still matter, maybe even more than before.

What this means for Dubai’s growing tech workforce

The timing of the research is notable. It was released alongside Workday’s announcement that it is formally launching UAE operations, opening an office in Dubai and expanding its regional leadership team. That signals growing confidence among global enterprise technology firms that the UAE market is worth deeper investment, not just sales visits.

For professionals in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and across the GCC, the findings offer a useful gut check. AI adoption is clearly high, with nine out of ten employees using it weekly. That puts the UAE workforce firmly in step with global digital transformation trends. But high usage does not automatically mean high reliability. The research makes clear that human oversight is still very much required, even as AI tools become more embedded in daily tasks like drafting emails, building reports or summarising data.

Companies across the region thinking about AI rollouts should take note. The real value of these tools may come less from replacing human work and more from reshaping it, shifting effort from doing tasks to checking and refining them. That is a different kind of productivity gain, and it requires different training, different expectations and probably different ways of measuring success. You can follow more coverage like this on TAI News business section, where we track how technology is reshaping workplaces across the UAE and wider Gulf.

What to watch next is whether UAE employers adjust how they deploy AI once they digest numbers like these. Expect more focus on training staff to spot and fix AI errors quickly, rather than assuming the tools work perfectly out of the box. As Workday expands its Dubai presence and more companies study real-world AI performance, the gap between AI’s promised time savings and its actual, verified savings is likely to become a bigger talking point in UAE boardrooms. This report, and the original coverage from Arabian Business, gives a clear early signal of where that conversation is heading.
