Seven Agencies, One Brand

Keywords Studios has merged seven of its creative marketing units into a single global agency named FreeAnimal, in a move designed to give game developers, publishers and entertainment brands one point of contact for creative and marketing services. The consolidation brings together specialised teams that previously operated under separate identities within the company’s creative division, folding them into a unified structure aimed at reducing overlap and simplifying how clients engage with the group’s services.

FreeAnimal will cover marketing, creative production and related support functions for the gaming and interactive entertainment industries, spanning campaign development, content creation and other services typically required by studios bringing titles to market. By bringing these capabilities under one roof, Keywords Studios is positioning the new agency as a more streamlined alternative to engaging multiple specialised vendors for different stages of a game’s marketing and creative lifecycle.

A Push for Simplicity in a Crowded Market

The rebrand reflects a broader trend across the games industry, where publishers and developers increasingly favour integrated service providers over a patchwork of specialist agencies. As production budgets face greater scrutiny and marketing timelines tighten around global launches, companies supplying creative and promotional services are consolidating their offerings to present a simpler commercial proposition. Keywords Studios, which has built its business through acquisitions of specialist studios across localisation, art production, testing and marketing, appears to be applying the same logic internally, merging previously distinct creative brands into a single, more cohesive entity.

For Keywords Studios, the move is expected to reduce internal fragmentation, allowing account teams to offer a broader suite of services without clients needing to coordinate separately with multiple internal units. This kind of restructuring is common among large service groups seeking to improve efficiency and present a more coherent brand identity to enterprise clients managing large, multi-market campaigns.

While the announcement does not detail FreeAnimal’s operational footprint or client base in specific regions, Keywords Studios maintains a global presence and works with major publishers and developers across multiple continents. Gaming companies in the UAE and wider Gulf region, an increasingly active market for game development, publishing and esports investment, are likely to be indirectly affected by such structural changes at major service providers, even where no direct regional presence has been confirmed. As Gulf-based studios and publishers expand their international reach, simplified access to integrated marketing and creative services from established global providers could ease procurement processes for campaigns targeting international audiences.

The UAE has positioned itself as a regional hub for gaming and interactive entertainment, with government-backed initiatives and private investment fuelling growth in game development, publishing and esports infrastructure across the Gulf. Global service consolidations of this kind, even when not explicitly targeted at the region, can shape the options available to Gulf-based companies seeking marketing and creative partners for titles aimed at international markets.

Keywords Studios has not disclosed further details on FreeAnimal’s leadership structure, timeline for full integration, or specific client commitments tied to the rebrand. The company’s broader growth strategy has historically relied on acquiring and integrating specialist firms, suggesting further consolidation across its service portfolio may follow as it continues to compete for large-scale marketing and creative contracts within the gaming sector.
