IGN Entertainment will host a Women in Gaming networking breakfast at Gamescom this year, offering female professionals across the video game industry a dedicated space to connect during Europe’s largest gaming trade fair. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, 26 August, from 8:30 to 10:30 at the Dorint Hotel am Heumarkt Köln in Cologne, Germany, where Gamescom is held annually.

The breakfast is being organised in partnership with GamesIndustry.biz, a trade publication that will help extend the event’s visibility among developers, publishers, investors and media covering the sector. By pairing IGN’s global gaming media presence with GamesIndustry.biz’s industry-focused audience, organisers aim to draw a wide cross-section of professionals attending Gamescom for both business and networking purposes.

The breakfast format is designed to encourage informal, direct conversation among attendees rather than the panel-style discussions common at many industry side events. Women working across game development, publishing, marketing, esports and adjacent fields are expected to use the gathering to build professional relationships, exchange insights and discuss opportunities within an industry that continues to work toward broader gender representation.

Gamescom’s Global Draw and Gulf Relevance

Gamescom remains the largest gaming trade event in Europe, pulling in publishers, hardware makers, investors and studios from across the world each year. The event’s scale means side gatherings such as the Women in Gaming breakfast can attract participants well beyond the host country, including professionals from gaming markets outside Europe who travel to Cologne specifically to network, scout partnerships or explore business opportunities.

For the UAE and wider Gulf region, Gamescom has increasingly become a touchpoint as local gaming and esports ecosystems expand. Studios and gaming companies based in the GCC have been growing their international footprint in recent years, with government-backed initiatives in the UAE and Saudi Arabia positioning gaming as a strategic economic sector. Representatives from Gulf-based studios attending Gamescom for broader industry engagement could find events like this breakfast a relevant stop, particularly as regional companies look to strengthen ties with European markets and diversify their talent pipelines.

Gender representation within gaming has also been a growing point of focus in Gulf markets, where the industry has expanded rapidly alongside government investment in esports infrastructure, game development studios and digital entertainment more broadly. Networking events of this kind, even when held outside the region, can offer a channel for women in GCC-based gaming roles to connect with international peers, mentors and potential employers or partners.

While the event itself is being held in Germany and organised by international media outlets, its placement within Gamescom’s packed schedule underscores how side events at major trade fairs increasingly serve niche professional communities. For attendees travelling from the Gulf or elsewhere, the breakfast represents one of several networking opportunities available during Gamescom week, alongside the fair’s main exhibition halls, business meetings and industry panels.

Further details on registration or capacity for the Women in Gaming breakfast were not disclosed beyond the event’s date, time and venue.
