Dubai-based CWP Engineering has announced a five-year partnership with Italy’s Università del Salento and its EUMER Laboratory to collaborate on applied research in coastal, maritime, and offshore engineering. This initiative aims to enhance coastal resilience and port infrastructure through innovative research and training opportunities.
Research and Innovation Focus
The agreement will see CWP Engineering and Università del Salento engage in joint research, pursue funding, and develop models addressing sediment transport, wave mechanics, and coastal resilience. The collaboration will also explore digital tools, including AI-supported design optimization and digital twins for port systems, validated with EUMER’s experimental data.
Talent Development and Industry Impact
As part of the partnership, Università del Salento students will have access to thesis placements, scholarships, and involvement in live projects. CWP Engineering plans to expand its Italian team, aiming to become a leading provider of coastal and port engineering solutions in the Mediterranean. The partnership is structured to support ongoing joint projects, publications, and applied research.
Francesco Ciardulli, CEO of CWP Engineering, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “The EUMER Laboratory’s infrastructure, combined with the university’s excellence in innovation engineering, creates a powerful foundation for advancing coastal and port engineering.”
Professor Giuseppe R. Tomasicchio, Director of the EUMER Laboratory, emphasized the practical benefits for students and researchers, noting that the partnership allows them to apply research to real-world projects.
