DUBAI — Ahead of Apple’s expected entry into the foldable smartphone category next year, new data on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 is giving UAE retailers and telecom operators an early read on how demand for foldables could shift across the Gulf through 2026.

Counterpoint Research forecasts the global foldable smartphone market will grow 21 percent year-on-year in 2026, with Samsung retaining its lead even as Apple’s rumoured “iPhone Fold” prepares to enter the segment and capture an estimated 25 percent of foldable sales in its debut year. For the UAE, one of the highest per-capita smartphone markets in the world and a regional launch hub for premium devices, this signals a meaningful reshaping of retail strategy, carrier bundling and consumer financing over the next 12 to 18 months.

What it means for UAE retailers and telecoms

Dubai and Abu Dhabi have long served as early-adoption markets for Samsung’s foldable line, with du and etisalat by e& both offering trade-in and instalment plans tied to Galaxy Z Fold launches. Analysts tracking the category say Apple’s anticipated foldable, widely expected to carry a premium price point above $2,000, will likely debut in the UAE within its first global wave, given the country’s history of fast iPhone uptake. Local electronics retailers, including Sharaf DG and Jumbo Group, are expected to expand foldable display space and financing offers as competition between Samsung and Apple intensifies pricing and trade-in incentives.

Investor and founder considerations

For UAE-based investors and hardware-adjacent founders, the growth forecast points to opportunities in accessories, insurance products, and device-financing fintech tailored to higher-value foldable handsets. Component distributors and repair-service operators in Dubai’s electronics free zones may also see increased demand for foldable-specific parts, such as flexible displays and hinge mechanisms, as volumes rise. With Counterpoint projecting sustained double-digit growth, regional supply chain and after-sales service providers have a narrowing window to position ahead of Apple’s foldable launch, which could reset consumer expectations and pricing benchmarks across the GCC’s premium smartphone segment.
