Accor’s growing Egyptian portfolio

Accor has signed an agreement with Trust Contracting and Real Estate Investment Company to develop an ibis-branded hotel at Sidi Kerir on Egypt’s North Coast, extending the French hospitality group’s economy-segment footprint in one of the country’s fastest-growing coastal leisure markets.

The agreement was announced as part of Accor’s ongoing expansion strategy in Egypt, a market the group has identified as a priority for growth given rising domestic and regional tourism demand along the Mediterranean coastline. Sidi Kerir, located west of Alexandria, has in recent years attracted a wave of resort and residential development as both Egyptian and Gulf-based investors seek to capitalise on the North Coast’s summer tourism season.

Details on the scale of the planned ibis property, including room count, construction timeline and total investment value, have not been disclosed. The partnership nonetheless signals continued confidence from Accor and its local development partner in the long-term prospects of Egypt’s coastal hospitality sector, an industry that has historically drawn heavily on Gulf tourists and, increasingly, Gulf capital.

Accor’s growing Egyptian portfolio

The Sidi Kerir signing adds to a broader pattern of Accor deals across Egypt spanning multiple brand tiers, from budget and midscale offerings such as ibis to upscale and luxury properties operated under the group’s other brands. Accor has positioned Egypt as a key growth market within its Middle East and Africa division, citing rising visitor numbers, government-backed tourism infrastructure investment, and expanding air connectivity between Egypt and source markets including the Gulf states.

Trust Contracting and Real Estate Investment Company, the local partner in the deal, is among a number of Egyptian developers that have moved into branded hospitality projects as demand grows for internationally recognised hotel operators to manage properties along the North Coast, a stretch of coastline traditionally dominated by seasonal, locally branded resorts. Aligning with an established international operator such as Accor allows developers to tap into global distribution networks, loyalty programmes and operational standards that can help attract a broader base of visitors, including travellers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.

Why it matters for Gulf travellers and investors

Egypt’s North Coast has become an increasingly popular warm-weather destination for GCC nationals and residents, particularly during the summer months, supported by direct flight connections from major Gulf hubs including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Jeddah. The introduction of internationally branded, economy-tier accommodation such as ibis is expected to widen the range of accessible lodging options for Gulf visitors travelling to the area, alongside the upscale resorts that have traditionally defined the region’s tourism offering.

For UAE-based investors, the deal also reflects a wider regional trend of Gulf capital and hospitality expertise flowing into Egyptian real estate and tourism projects, a sector that has benefited from currency reforms and government incentives aimed at attracting foreign investment. Dubai-headquartered and other UAE-linked developers have previously partnered with international hotel groups on Egyptian coastal projects, underscoring the interconnected nature of tourism investment across the two markets.

Accor operates an extensive network of properties across the UAE and wider Gulf region under multiple brands, and the group has consistently framed its Egyptian expansion as complementary to its Middle East strategy rather than a standalone initiative. Further details on the Sidi Kerir project, including an expected opening date, are likely to be released as development plans progress.
