More advanced digital enablers such as cognitive planning, predictive analytics based on artificial intelligence, and advanced tracking and tracing methods will be key elements.
Such is the outlook according to KPMG, whose report Six outlined the key trends affecting global supply chains in 2022
that “many supply chain managers are currently struggling by the lack of visibility in their entire extended offer chains because there are so many nodes and participants in them extended chain. Leading organizations use advanced technology for significantly improved visibility and thus become much more sensitive to great disruption and variability within their domestic, regional and global supply chains.\”
Logistical Challenges
KPMG lists a few key ones considerations for the companies they address today\’s logistical challenges, the first among which is sufficient operational flexibility adapt in real time to changes in the trade flows and regulations, ongoing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and broader geopolitical issues. The guidance also highlights the importance of deriving usable data from digital operations, supplier partnerships and continuous monitoring of risks.
