Phasmophobia Studio Expands Into Publishing

Kinetic Games, the British developer behind the breakout co-op horror title Phasmophobia, is set to unveil the debut lineup of its newly formed publishing arm, Kinetic Publishing, at a showcase scheduled for August 12. The event will mark the label’s first public reveal of signed titles since it was quietly established as a division of the studio, and will offer the clearest signal yet of Kinetic Games’ ambitions beyond development.

Phasmophobia, released in 2020, became one of the standout indie hits of its generation, drawing millions of players into its multiplayer ghost-hunting format and cementing Kinetic Games’ reputation as a studio capable of building a title with sustained commercial and cultural staying power. That success has now become the foundation for a broader strategy: rather than confining itself to in-house development, Kinetic Games is positioning itself as a backer and publisher for other independent studios, offering the kind of resources, visibility and market credibility that smaller teams often struggle to secure on their own.

Details on the specific games being announced, how many titles make up the initial slate, or the genres and platforms involved have not been disclosed ahead of the showcase. Kinetic Publishing has indicated that the August 12 event will serve as the venue for those specifics, along with further insight into how the label intends to work with the developers it signs. Until then, the announcement remains notable primarily for what it represents: a horror-game studio with a proven hit leveraging that success to back other creators in an increasingly crowded indie market.

Why It Matters for Gulf Gaming and Investment

The move comes as independent game publishing continues to gain traction as a business model, with successful studios increasingly using their earnings and industry standing to support smaller developers rather than simply reinvesting in sequels or expansions of their own franchises. For a title like Phasmophobia, which built its audience largely through word-of-mouth and streaming visibility rather than traditional marketing budgets, the pivot to publishing suggests confidence that similar organic growth strategies can be replicated for other indie projects under its banner.

While Kinetic Publishing’s initial announcement carries no direct UAE or GCC tie-in, the development is relevant to a region where gaming and esports have become a focus of state and private investment. The UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf markets have in recent years poured significant capital into gaming infrastructure, studios, tournaments and publishing ventures as part of broader economic diversification efforts, with indie game development increasingly viewed as an underexplored opportunity within that push.

As Gulf-based investors and public entities continue to explore stakes in Western gaming companies and publishing labels, the emergence of new indie-focused publishers such as Kinetic Publishing adds another data point to a global market that regional stakeholders are watching closely. Industry observers in the Gulf gaming sector will likely track how independent labels backed by proven studios choose to structure support for smaller developers, given the region’s own ambitions to cultivate homegrown indie talent and attract international publishing partnerships.

Further details on Kinetic Publishing’s debut slate, including any potential regional distribution or investment partnerships, are expected to emerge following the August 12 showcase.
