Monday.com AI Layoffs: What UAE Tech Firms Must Know

DUBAI — Monday.com’s disclosure that artificial intelligence efficiencies are driving a fresh round of job cuts has placed the Israeli-founded, Nasdaq-listed workplace software firm alongside at least 20 other global technology companies citing AI as a factor in 2024 layoffs, a trend UAE executives are watching closely given the region’s deep exposure to enterprise software vendors and its own aggressive AI adoption agenda.

Why This Matters to UAE Businesses

Monday.com maintains a regional presence serving customers across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and its restructuring follows similar moves at Salesforce, Intuit, Workday and other software providers widely used by UAE enterprises, banks and government entities. For CIOs and procurement teams across the Emirates, the layoffs signal that vendors are reallocating headcount toward AI development while trimming customer-facing and operational roles — a shift that could affect support response times, account management continuity, and pricing structures for SaaS contracts renewed in Dubai International Financial Centre and Abu Dhabi Global Market-based firms.

The pattern also reinforces messaging from UAE officials, who have positioned the country as an AI-first economy through initiatives such as the UAE AI Strategy 2031 and the Dubai AI Campus. As global tech firms restructure around automation, UAE-based startups and enterprises face both an opportunity and a warning: AI-driven productivity gains are real enough to justify workforce reductions at well-capitalized firms, but the transition carries reputational and morale costs that regional employers should plan for proactively.

Implications for GCC Investors and Founders

For venture investors across the Gulf, the Monday.com news adds to evidence that AI-native efficiency is becoming a due-diligence criterion rather than a marketing claim. Family offices and sovereign-linked funds in Abu Dhabi that hold positions in enterprise software, directly or through global tech ETFs, should expect continued margin expansion at firms executing AI-linked layoffs, potentially supporting valuations even as headcount falls.

UAE founders building SaaS products, meanwhile, face pressure to demonstrate comparable AI-driven leverage in their own operating models when raising capital from regional venture firms, several of which have begun asking portfolio companies directly about automation’s effect on staffing plans and burn rates.
