MENA AI Startups Graduate Propeller’s Kernel Camp

DUBAI — A Silicon Valley accelerator’s first cohort of MENA-founded AI startups is drawing attention from Gulf investors scouting deep-tech deal flow beyond their home markets, as regional venture capital increasingly looks to North Africa and the Levant for early-stage technical talent. Propeller has concluded its inaugural Kernel Camp, an eight-week residency programme, graduating five startups from Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, and Egypt: OORB, Techbible, FirstFlow, Nexguards, and Flowbrave. The companies, selected from the top 3% of applicants, work across AI infrastructure, developer tools, robotics, cybersecurity, and enterprise software.

Why it matters for Gulf capital

UAE-based venture funds and family offices have been broadening mandates to cover MENA-wide AI plays, given limited domestic deep-tech deal volume relative to available dry powder. Kernel Camp’s cohort offers a curated pipeline: founders vetted through a competitive selection process and exposed to Silicon Valley operators, executives, and investors during the residency. For Dubai and Abu Dhabi-based accelerators and sovereign-linked investment vehicles, such programmes function as external due-diligence filters, reducing the cost of sourcing technically credible startups from markets where local scouting networks remain thin. Abu Dhabi’s growing cluster of AI-focused funds, alongside Dubai’s fintech and enterprise software investors, has shown appetite for infrastructure and cybersecurity plays that can plug into Gulf enterprise and government digitisation programmes.

Implications for UAE founders and enterprises

The graduation also signals a template UAE accelerators could replicate or partner on. Hub71 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s In5 have both run cross-border founder programmes, and a Silicon Valley residency model focused specifically on AI and deep tech fills a gap between generic startup bootcamps and later-stage growth accelerators. Enterprise software and cybersecurity ventures from the cohort are particularly relevant to UAE corporates and government entities pursuing AI adoption under national strategies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where demand for vetted, implementation-ready vendors continues to outstrip local supply. UAE-based enterprises evaluating AI infrastructure or developer-tooling vendors may find in this cohort candidates already stress-tested against Silicon Valley benchmarks, offering a lower-risk entry point for pilot deployments compared with unproven local alternatives.
