Bluesky’s Attie AI Tool Expands to AT Protocol for UAE Tech

DUBAI — Bluesky’s expansion of its AI research assistant Attie into an open tool for querying conversations across the AT Protocol is drawing attention from UAE technology executives tracking decentralized social platforms as an alternative to closed, algorithm-driven networks. The update allows users to ask Attie natural-language questions about news, trends and discussions not only on Bluesky but across other apps built on the same open protocol, positioning it as a cross-platform research layer rather than a single-app chatbot.

Why It Matters for Gulf Markets

The UAE has positioned itself as a hub for AI governance and open digital infrastructure, with Abu Dhabi’s G42 and Dubai’s ongoing push to attract Web3 and decentralized technology firms through free zones such as DIFC and DMCC. Attie’s move to operate across an interoperable protocol, rather than within a walled garden, aligns with regulatory interest in the region around data portability and platform accountability. For UAE-based fintech, media and marketing firms, a tool that surfaces sentiment and trend data across multiple AT Protocol apps could offer an early, lower-cost alternative to enterprise social listening platforms that typically charge premium fees for API access to X or Meta properties.

Opportunity for Local Founders

Dubai and Abu Dhabi have seen growing founder interest in building on open protocols, partly driven by concerns over platform risk after policy shifts at larger incumbents. Attie’s expansion signals that decentralized social infrastructure is maturing enough to support AI-native tools, which could invite UAE-based developers to build localized applications — in Arabic-language sentiment analysis, for instance, or GCC market intelligence — on top of the AT Protocol’s open architecture. Venture investors in the region who have been cautious about decentralized social platforms following the slower-than-expected growth of earlier alternatives may view this as a signal that the category is shifting from novelty to utility.

Bluesky has not disclosed specific enterprise pricing or regional partnership plans, and it remains unclear whether Attie’s expanded capabilities will be available to non-English-language communities at launch. UAE firms evaluating the tool for market research will likely wait for clarity on data residency and moderation standards before adoption, given the country’s data protection framework under Federal Decree-Law No. 45.
