Introducing Broker Model Gains Attention Across the Region

Interest in the Introducing Broker (IB) model is rising across the Middle East and North Africa as retail trading and online brokerage services continue to expand in the region. The IB structure, long established in global forex and contracts-for-difference (CFD) markets, allows individuals or firms to refer clients to a licensed brokerage in exchange for a share of the commission or spread generated by that client’s trading activity. Rather than holding client funds or executing trades directly, an IB acts as an intermediary, connecting prospective traders with a regulated broker that handles execution, custody and compliance.

The appeal of the model lies in its relatively low barrier to entry. Individuals with an existing network, a social media following, an educational platform or a financial advisory background can potentially generate recurring income by directing new clients to a broker’s trading platform, without needing to build their own trading infrastructure or secure a full brokerage licence themselves. Compensation structures vary by broker and typically fall into categories such as revenue-share arrangements, fixed commission per lot traded, or hybrid models combining both.

Across MENA, the growth of retail participation in currency, commodity and equity derivatives trading has fed demand for such partnership arrangements, as brokers look to expand their client base through local and regional networks rather than relying solely on direct advertising. This has coincided with a broader increase in financial literacy content, trading education platforms and social-media-driven interest in markets among younger populations in the region.

Why the Trend Matters for the UAE and Gulf

The United Arab Emirates has positioned itself as a regional hub for financial services and online trading platforms, with regulatory frameworks overseen by bodies such as the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) at the federal level, alongside independent regulators in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). Brokerages operating in or targeting the UAE market are required to meet licensing standards set by these authorities, a factor that also extends to firms engaging IB partners to market their services locally.

For UAE and wider Gulf residents, including the region’s large expatriate population, the IB model represents one of several ways individuals with financial market knowledge or established audiences can participate in the brokerage ecosystem without becoming licensed brokers themselves. However, market participants considering such arrangements are typically advised to verify that any broker they intend to represent holds appropriate regulatory approval in the relevant jurisdiction, given that unregulated or offshore platforms have periodically drawn scrutiny from regional regulators over investor protection concerns.

Analysts tracking the brokerage industry note that partnership-based distribution models, including IB and affiliate arrangements, are likely to remain a feature of how trading platforms expand their reach in emerging and fast-growing markets such as those in the Gulf, where demand for accessible investment and trading tools has been increasing alongside broader financial inclusion efforts. As with any commission-based referral activity tied to financial products, the sustainability of income generated through IB partnerships depends on factors such as client retention, trading volumes and the underlying broker’s regulatory standing, rather than guaranteed or fixed returns.

No specific companies, regulatory rulings or market-size figures for the IB segment in the region have been formally disclosed in connection with this trend, and prospective participants are generally encouraged to conduct independent due diligence before entering into any partnership agreement with a brokerage operating in or serving the UAE and broader GCC markets.
