UAE Licensed Firms Jump 43% as Markets Hit AED3.7tn

If you’ve been thinking about setting up a regulated business in the UAE, you’re not alone. New data shows the number of companies licensed by the Capital Market Authority (CMA) jumped 43 percent in the first nine months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. That’s a huge signal that confidence in the country’s financial services sector is rising fast, and it matters whether you’re an investor, a jobseeker, or someone eyeing a new business venture in the UAE.

What’s driving this UAE investment boom?

The CMA’s latest figures paint a picture of a market that’s growing on almost every front. Alongside the jump in licensed companies, the number of accredited professionals working in the sector rose by 64 percent year-on-year. More licensed firms and more qualified professionals usually go hand in hand with more job opportunities, more services for investors, and a more mature financial ecosystem overall.

The bigger picture backs this up. The combined market capitalisation of the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and Dubai Financial Market (DFM) reached AED3.7 trillion by the end of September 2026. Total traded value across both exchanges hit AED408 billion over the first nine months of the year. For context, market capitalisation is simply the total value of all shares listed on an exchange, so a bigger number means more wealth sitting in UAE-listed companies.

Foreign investors are clearly part of this story too. They accounted for 49 percent of traded value during the period, which is nearly half of all buying and selling activity on these exchanges. That’s a strong vote of confidence from international money, and it suggests the UAE is increasingly seen as a safe, attractive place to park serious capital. Both the ADX and DFM general indices also closed September 2026 higher than they were a year earlier, and volatility eased in the third quarter, meaning trading conditions became more stable and predictable.

Where’s the money actually going?

Beyond stocks, there’s been plenty of action in debt and funds too. Bond and sukuk issuances, which are essentially ways for governments and companies to borrow money from investors, reached a combined AED576 billion in the first nine months of 2026. That’s a massive amount of capital-raising activity, and it shows companies and institutions are confident enough to take on new financing in the current climate.

Separately, companies carried out about AED3.4 billion in capital increases during the same period, meaning existing businesses raised fresh funds to grow or restructure.

The investment funds sector is also having a strong year. The number of local investment funds grew by 94 percent year-on-year to reach 97 funds, almost doubling in just twelve months. Their combined assets under management, the total value of money and investments they manage on behalf of clients, grew by 30 percent to AED28.6 billion in the third quarter alone. For everyday investors in the UAE and wider GCC, this means more fund options to choose from when deciding where to put their savings, and it points to growing trust in locally managed investment products rather than relying solely on international funds.

Put together, these numbers tell a consistent story: more companies are getting licensed, more professionals are getting accredited, more foreign money is flowing in, and more local funds and bonds are being launched. If you’re following investment news in the region, this is exactly the kind of steady, broad-based growth that tends to attract even more capital over time, rather than one flashy headline number that fades quickly.

What to watch next is whether this pace holds up through the final quarter of 2026. If licensing, fund growth, and foreign participation keep climbing at this rate, the UAE’s capital markets could be setting up for a genuinely strong year-end, according to the WAM report.
