ServiceNow’s $40M BusinessNext Deal Signals UAE Banking Tech

DUBAI — ServiceNow’s $40 million investment in Indian banking software specialist BusinessNext lands at a moment when UAE and wider GCC financial institutions are accelerating spend on AI-driven core banking and customer engagement platforms, making the deal a signal worth watching for regional bank technology chiefs and fintech investors alike.

Why the deal matters to Gulf banks

BusinessNext, which builds AI-powered software for retail and corporate banking, counts several Middle East lenders among its client base and has been expanding its presence across the GCC through partnerships with regional systems integrators. ServiceNow’s capital injection is designed to help the Chennai-founded firm scale its generative AI banking tools globally, with the Gulf flagged internally as a priority growth market given the region’s high digital-banking adoption and heavy sovereign wealth backing for fintech infrastructure. For UAE banks such as Emirates NBD, Mashreq and ADCB, all of which have publicly committed to multi-year core banking modernization programs, the tie-up widens the pool of enterprise-grade vendors offering embedded AI capabilities without requiring a full platform rip-and-replace.

Implications for UAE investors and founders

The transaction also reinforces a broader trend of large US enterprise software vendors using minority stakes rather than outright acquisitions to buy distribution into emerging markets, a structure increasingly relevant to UAE-based venture and growth investors evaluating fintech and enterprise SaaS deals. Abu Dhabi’s ADQ and Mubadala, along with Dubai-based family offices active in fintech, have shown appetite for backing banking-technology infrastructure plays rather than consumer fintech apps, and the ServiceNow-BusinessNext structure offers a template for similar minority-stake arrangements involving regional players. UAE-headquartered software founders building in regtech, core banking, or AI-driven financial services tooling should note that strategic corporate investors are actively seeking partners with existing Gulf banking relationships rather than building local go-to-market capability from scratch. Dubai International Financial Centre and Abu Dhabi Global Market, both positioning themselves as regional fintech hubs, are likely destinations for BusinessNext’s expanded Gulf operations as it deploys ServiceNow’s capital and enterprise sales infrastructure across the region’s banking sector over the coming year.
